Richardson City Council will meet on
Monday night to vote to take decision to decide extra space for a non-profit
organization.
The Network of Community Ministries asked more space, and the City of Richardson
will be paying for it if they pass in the favor.
The non-profit organization receives
support from The Dallas Morning
News Charities is planning
to add 6,000 square feet on Sherman Street to build a family clothing center.
The city will be paying the $65,000
annual cost for rent, utilities and overhead for the next five years, if the
city approves it.
City Manager Bill Keffler said the city contribution will eliminate the requirement
for the organization to conduct a capital campaign for the development.
ÒGetting the Federal Government out
of the entitlement business and putting it in the hands of local government is
a good idea, Wilfred Kidd, the owner of Kidd consulting company said. ÒHowever,
since taxpayer funds are being used the charity receiving the funds has an
obligation to the taxpayers to distribute the funds or goods for the intended
purpose. This means some sort of accountability accounting must be provided.Ó
NetworkÕs mission is Òcaring, coaching and empowering the neighbors in need as they seek an
improved quality of life.Ó The organization has three divisions,
Emergency Services, the Adolescent and ChildrenÕs Clinic and The SeniorsÕ Net. Network
strives to educate the local community on issues that affect those in need.
Network was established as a charity
with 37 original corporate membersÕ organizations and 36 new corporate members
of churches and social service organizations.
According to Network Web site, ÒLast
year, the Network assisted 38,170 adult individuals, children and
seniors. Since the organization founded 24 years ago, it impacted the
lives of over 125,000 individuals.
