UNT’s loss

Thank you for publishing the March 4 editorial “What really happened at UNT?”

It was a surprise to see Gretchen Bataille resign from her presidency and unfortunate for officials to not give a reason. The university community should know why the president resigned. It would bring transparency, and people would be more likely to trust the administration.

As a journalism student at the University of Texas at Arlington, I think UT-Arlington lost a partner in the pursuit of Tier One status. Presidents from UT-Dallas, UTA and UNT lobbied together to get the Legislature to pass a bill for future funding.

I don’t know how long it will take to appoint a new president, but the sooner UNT gets one, the better it would be for those students as well as the students I attend classes with.

I believe that UNT may face challenges and difficulties during the transition period. The college needs a consistent figure to represent it in Denton, the state and on the national level.
